Prostate Treatment Options
Our approach is personalized, depending on the type and severity of the condition:
1. Medications
- Alpha-blockers and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors for BPH
- Antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications for prostatitis
2. Endoscopic (Telescopic) treatment of BPH , Benign Prostate Hyperplasia
- Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP). Done endoscopically (telescopically) without any need of cuts on the body. In this process the Obstructive (Central) part of the Prostate is removed telescopically and the passage is opened from inside like a funnel to improve flow of Urine.
Laser treatments for BPH, HoLEP, Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate. Done endoscopically (telescopically) with no need of cuts on body. Laser surgery, HoLEP is very effective and can be done for patient with Kidney failure, heart disease on blood thinners, large size prostates, liver problems as blood loss is minimized by the use of laser.
Minimally invasive Treatment of Prostate: UROLIFT, REZUM, iTind, Prostate Artery embolization, are minimally invasive treatment which can now be offered to patients who cannot tolerate spinal /general anesthesia due to comorbidities due to very weak heart function, Post Stroke condition, moribund status.
- These procedures can be done in 15-20 minutes duration in the Operation Theatre under Local Anesthesia with mild sedation. These procedures offer a new hope to patients who are chronically catheter bound due to highly comorbid conditions and refused treatment . These patients can now be made free of urinary catheter.
- Important Note: Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) Treatment happens in the Central part of Prostate Gland and Cancer Prostate usually happens in the Peripheral (Outside) part of the Prostate gland and Endoscopic Treatment of BPH in no way increases chances of Prostate cancer occurence to a patient, or increased spread of cancer in future.
